Abstract

Abstract. This study presents a species list based on the results of mosquito population surveys in the Karaganda Region, Kazakhstan. Our findings indicate the presence of at least 11 species of blood-sucking mosquitoes belonging to the genus Aedes. Furthermore, the investigation identified specimens exhibiting atypical morphological characteristics, suggesting the potential for cryptic species or novel variations within existing populations. These results underscore the need for further research, particularly using molecular methods, to clarify the taxonomic status of these morphologically distinct specimens. This paper also presents the results of an analysis of species diversity and the evenness of species distribution based on their abundance within the community. It is shown that the species composition of Aedes mosquitoes in and around the city of Karaganda differs from the mosquito fauna of the Nura District of the Karaganda Region. Ae. (Och.) dorsalis is the numerically dominant species in the vicinity of the regional center, while Ae. (Rus.) subdiversus is numerically prevalent in the Nura District. This research provides a foundation for future studies aimed at understanding the biodiversity of Aedes mosquitoes and its significance for public health in central Kazakhstan.
